29 May 2002

4:30pm hopefully this time, i can trap the momentum and follow through on what i want. on a different note, NORM KO! are you out there? if anyone knows a NORM KO who used to live in Atlanta and then moved to San Diego, let me know.

24 May 2002

4:45pm i am not looking forward to battling friday afternoon pre-long-weekend traffic. however, i AM looking forward to grilling some salmon steaks on the foreman grill, the drive to vegas, and a grand lux burger at the grand lux cafe in the venetian! mmm...

23 May 2002

8:49pm used the george foreman grill for the first time today--wow!! steaks, yum. the only pain in the ass is the clean-up. but hey--i haven't had a working stove in over 3 months. i'm glad to finally be able to cook some fresh meat at home again.

22 May 2002

4:20pm Yay! Earlier today, we decided to head to Vegas for the weekend. This is on my list of things to do. Earlier in the week, I also made hotel reservations so we can go see this in August. Man, I stink at saving money.

1:45pm its the friday five!

1. What shampoo do you use? i keep a bunch of different kinds in my shower: neutrogena clean (once a week to get rid of all the gunk i put in my hair), herbal essences (cuz it smells good), some japanese kind from the discount store in j-town, pantene pro-v 2-in-1, and thermasilk.

2. Do you use conditioner? What kind? unless i'm using 2-in-1, i always use the matching conditioner of whatever i just shampooed with.

3. When was the last time you got your hair cut? last saturday.

4. What styling products do you use? bumble & bumble styling creme and redken waterwax

5. What's your worst hair-related experience? its captured in my passport. i look like an ass.

4:45pm 6 days later, i realize that unemotional is an inaccurate word. aloof or insouciant, perhaps. but really, its all about masks, filters, and scope.

14 May 2002

12:10pm i was dogsitting all of last week, and now the house is a little too quiet. i think she discovered a ghost in our house, as there is one room that freaked her out for the whole week she was with us. some suggestions i've gotten are: voodoo dolls (the dog's owner went to new orleans and brought us some), coconuts (cuban thing), and holy water from lourdes (my mom). great.

9:40am its not even ten yet, and i have already eaten too much cheese. agh.

yesterday, i spent the day swimming in warm mineral water, relaxing in hot tubs, and drinking smoothies here. worked out, did some weights, and then spent the rest of the day alternating between the regular pool and the warm watsu pool. after that, i went into the bathhouse for some hot tub, aromatherapy, and sauna action, and then onto my massage! it rocked.

some good eats recently:

  • bison brewery/dragonfly - back in college, i lived across the street from here, so we'd often walk across the street for the inhouse brew and some french fries. since then, the place has been remodeled with an 'asian' feel (ie, they put in some shoji screens and placesettings include chopsticks), and the food menu has been changed. the beer stays the same (mediocre), and they have some hard iced teas i'd never tried before (they're just ok). dinner was good, though. we shared sesame encrusted fried calamari for appetizers, and for dinner, we shared tamarind claypot mussels, crab ravioli, and seafood gumbo. the crab ravioli was tasteless, but the mussels and gumbo rocked. i'd come again for the fries, cuz those looked good too.
  • crustacean - TERRIBLE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! this place is so ghetto, i can't believe they have the audacity to charge that much for crappy food. my opinion still stands that good vietnamese food doesn't need to cost more than $5-7 a plate (i think i'm one of the only people that hates le cheval, ie vietnamese food for white people.) we started with the pesto mussels, which were tasty, but we only got 4, and they were a touch overcooked. our meal, which came out over an HOUR later wasn't worth the ~$23/plate we were charged for it. i had corn/crab bisque (which was tasty) and the seared ahi tuna (encrusted with peppercorns). it was over cooked and the wrong temperature. yuck. j and d ordered the red snapper with garlic noodles, which was tasty. and someone also ordered the chilean seabass, which tasted like fish sticks. WASTE OF MONEY! service stunk, food sucked (and the boys had to go to joe's ice cream for some supplementary sandwiches.) i also can't believe that place had the nerve to post dress-code restrictions--which weren't even enforced. i had some good ginger ice cream at joe's though.

4:00pm holy crap! i sent a package to ghana over a year ago. it just arrived. too bad my friend has been back in the bay area for almost a year now. usually, packages to africa take 3-4 weeks to arrive. this one took...fiftysomething. oh well.

3 May 2002

11:40am had dinner last night at chaya--an asian fusion restaurant on embarcadero. normally, asian fusion sucks, but this was rather tasty. i had a delicious cocktail (try the tiki tini or the cosmojito), a delicious toro appetizer (the sushi there is ultra-fresh, albeit ultra-$$$), and for dinner, cajun-spiced lobster with artichoke/asparagus risotto in parmesan fondue. YUM!!! i also tried bacon-wrapped salmon with asparagus risotto, a caterpillar roll (melts in your mouth!) and filet mignon. for dessert, we shared a fruit & cheese plate, which was delicious. the best grapes i've tasted in a long time, honestly. service was great, despite being the youngest people in the whole restaurant, by far. i was hesitant, at first, because i hate snooty restaurants, but the waitstaff (and manager!) were incredibly friendly, even to us "little kids." something i also noticed: aside from the waiters and kitchenstaff, were the only non-white people there. but the food was damn tasty. expensive, so its definitely a once in a while thing.

2 May 2002

2:40pm after years and years of showers, i took my first bath in a while yesterday to relax my sore muscles...farting in a bathtub will never cease to amuse me.

9:25am my legs haven't seen much daylight this past winter, so i haven't really been paying attention to them...but yesterday, i put on some short shorts to wash & wax my car, and i noticed something: I've got that line again!! you know, the line on the side of your thighs that says "I work out" and "Check out this definition." The line was a normal thing in high school, as I was a year-round jock. But when I got to college, I got lazy, and the line disappeared. Well, finally my diligence at the gym has paid off--just in time for summer. Yay! Time to go bikini shopping.
