4:35pm there's a show on fuji tv that j and i have dubbed "the fat kid show." it simultaneously cracks us up and makes us sad. the host is funny. he dresses up in this silver pepsiman-like suit with hermes-like wings on his head and teaches kids dance routines in order to get them to exercise. the mean part is that its designed for fat kids, so he always picks a fat kid to make fun of, and smushes up their faces and pinches their cheeks. the cool thing is that a yardful of these kids learn his long dance routines and get a lot of exercise in, and he makes them do funny dance moves that are fun for kids. i bet this would be good for american kids, although i doubt american parents or the fragile psyche of the american child would accept the humiliation part of the show. anyone know what the show is really called?

11:35am if boys had to go through what girls go through, they wouldn't make it past the first day.

9:45am doing the friday five on a tuesday, cuz i didnt have time before and its all about food:

1. What is your favorite restaurant and why? grand lux cafe (las vegas) because of the grand lux burger melt (tasty beef patty on grilled sourdough sprinkled with cheddar, with grilled onions and special sauce inside). they also have the best pasta dish i've ever had for under $10. the caesar salad is also damn good, but it always gives me the runs. ok, i'm fiending vegas.

2. What fast food restaurant are you partial to? mcdonald's french fries and in n out cheeseburgers

3. What are your standards and rules for tipping? good (ie quick, pleasant, not snooty) service, good tip. bad service (snooty, rude), bad tip. and i don't go to asian dives expecting good service--just good food.

4. Do you usually order an appetizer and/or dessert? if its an american restaurant, hell no. dinner is already more than i can handle. if its family style, then usually an appetizer. rarely do i order dessert. there's usually no room left (not that i don't love it).

5. What do you usually order to drink at a restaurant? water, sprite, coke, lemonade, cosmos, or mojitos.

3:40pm more eats:

  • bi bim bab, pancakes & bacon, and teriyaki mushroom swiss cheeseburger at chubby's. (i've eaten there 3 times since friday). anywhere you can get burgers and bulgogi is good with me.
  • chocolate ice cream with bananas and toasted almonds at coldstone creamery. YUM!
  • el pollo loco. corn tortillas--yum.
  • burger, drinks, and pool at d&b.
  • i really crave an orange julius.
  • gin joint--yummy mojitos, good red potatoes, duck quesadillas, and fried calamari salad. thank scott for showing the way.

8 April 2002

11:36am its been a weekend of brain and tummy abuse. but goddamn was it a good eatin weekend:

  • La Fondue (Saratoga): Shared the fondue feast with 3 other people. After downing three extra strength Lactaids, we started with the Stinking Rose and Pesto and Cognac cheeses. Dipped apples, potatoes, carrots, pickles, onions, bread, and other goodies in the cheeses. Already started feeling full, but then the meats came out: Chicken Japonaise, Teriyaki Sirloin, Savage Duck, Spiced Fish, Buffalo, and Filet Mignon. Everything was grilled with garlic and garlic butter. Yum. And then came dessert...OHMYGOSH. fucking delicious. Bittersweet chocolate with irish cream...dipping bananas, rice krispy balls, cream cheese & graham cracker balls, marshmallows (ick), apples, strawberries, melons....YUM. I don't know how 2 people can eat that much though, because between the four of us, we were plenty full. incredibly good meal for $30, although I must say J was forced to fling the windows wide open the next morning, despite the Lactaid.
  • Great China (Berkeley): Peking Duck, Double Skin Salad, Sauteed Green Beans, and some seafood dish. Peking Duck is yum.
also saw y tu mama tambien this weekend. highly recommended... makes me want to do a roadtrip through mexico. first, i need to learn some spanish. i have a vast repertoire of prison spanish (thank you blood in blood out!)...but i doubt that would be useful for any of my travels.

5 April 2002

11:15am friday five:

1. What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day? snooze, poop, brush teeth, shower, get dressed, blow dry hair, go to work.

2. What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed? brush teeth, go pee, fill up water bottle

3. What daily routine have you recently added to your day? my routine hasn't changed much since last summer. sad, yes.

4. What routine do you wish you get rid of? it would be nice not to have to go to work. i don't mind my job, but who wants to work, when i could better spend my time doing nothing?

5. What's the one thing that makes you feel like something is missing if you don't do it some point within your day? poop.
