This is hilarious! It was an HR issue in other divisions, but most people in my group find it hilarious. Too bad I can't run those kinds of ads for my vertical. This campaign was developed by DDB, the creators of the Budweiser "Real Men of Genius" ads, which are awesome.

I got retainers--woohoo! I got my braces off almost 15 years ago and probably haven't worn my retainers in 7-8 years (they're pretty crusty after 15 years of existence). Now that my dental policy covers orthodontics, I thought I'd get some new retainers just to make sure my teeth don't go anywhere. My top teeth haven't really moved without the retainers but my bottom teeth did move a little bit. So for the top teeth, I have this tray (not pictured) that looks like invisalign just to make sure everything stays put. For the bottom teeth, I have a red sparkly retainer with wires and springs to pop two errant teeth back into place.

Wearing retainers again takes some getting used to. I drool a lot more, I have a silly lisp, and I have to try to get them off every time I want to eat something (these new retainers are ridiculously tight--I could pop my old ones off with my tongue). Last night, the tightness on my top retainer was irritating, so I popped that out of my mouth and figured I'd wear it another night. Since my teeth are pretty straight, my orthodontist (same one from my first round of braces!) said I can be pretty lackadaisical about wear. Hooray--no snaggleteeth!

Beard Papa opened last Friday (on Mission btw 3rd & 4th) and I just picked up my first half dozen today. I normally don't even like cream puffs (or most sweets, for that matter), but these are soooooo good--not too sweet, not too creamy. There's another one opening in downtown Redwood City sometime in August. YUM!

Training has begun for my next half marathon--the SF Marathon on July 30. I'll be running the second half of the course, which goes through the Haight and the Mission. I chose the second half because it is a path I rarely run due to traffic and safety concerns. The first half goes along Crissy Field and through the Presidio--places I regularly run for training and for other races. I'm hoping to break my last time (shouldn't be too hard) by following Hal Higdon's intermediate half marathon training program (which includes sprint workouts at the track once a week) and doing both pilates and yoga once a week. Once my half is over, I immediately delve into marathon training--my first one!

Apparently, I have reached that age where all of my friends are getting married. At the end of the summer, I have three weddings--one every other weekend. That's gonna be EXPENSIVE!

I just got word that one of my favorite childhood friends is engaged. Although he hasn't told me directly yet (heard from a family friend), I had a hunch since he emailed me asking for my address. I couldn't think of any other reason that he would need my address since we no longer write letters to each other. He banned me from that activity after I sent him a letter with a Hello Kitty sticker on it while he was at Marine training camp. All the guys made fun of him and ever since, he's kept his mailing address from me (even when I promised to send porn and cigarettes to Iraq).

Friday night, my roommate/good friend from college called to invite me to his wedding...at 3pm the next day in Big Sur!!! I'm super happy for my friend but wished he'd given me at least a few days' notice so that I could rearrange my mom's birthday lunch. I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't make it, but was glad to hear they'd have another ceremony (with his parents and bro this time) in August. Hopefully it doesn't coincide with an existing wedding date. I hate having to choose between friends.

Last year, J & I were invited to three weddings on the same weekend. My choice was obvious since one of them was my cousin's but I was sad to miss the other two.

One of our friends is in training to become a yoga teacher. For practice, she's teaching us yoga lessons for free once a week. Normally, I don't like yoga because it is too passive for me, but for some reason, I really enjoyed her class on Saturday. Perhaps it is because of the smaller class size, or the fact that she teaches us more advanced moves at a quicker pace. Either way, I want to continue to get better at yoga so that I can do moves like this and this. Maybe one day, I'll be strong enough to do a pull up...or a flare!

Lately, I've been addicted to Mediterranean food: falafels, shwarma, hummus, kebbe etc. I'm probably eating everything incorrectly and out of order, but I just can't get enough right now. To satisfy my cravings, J & I headed down to the Mission after our workout to try out Truly Mediterranean (16th & Valencia) or (if there was no parking) Good Frikin Chicken (29th & Mission).

I had forgotten that yesterday was the immigration protest, and as part of this, ALL Mission businesses were closed (including all Mediterranean places)--except, of course, all of the gentrified/fancy restaurants, Chinese places, and...Zante's pizza! I had forgotten about Indian pizza--yum! I still need a falafel though.

I was very impressed that all of the Mission businesses (even El Farolito--which is ALWAYS open) were able to mobilize so quickly in a show of solidarity.

Maybe I can hit up GFC tonight.
